Which STDs do you test for?
Our STD screening covers common infections such as syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhoea, herpes and hepatitis B and C. Your doctor chooses the tests that match your symptoms and risk.
Do I need a swab inside the penis?
Usually not. Chlamydia and gonorrhoea are tested with a urine PCR sample, which is accurate and avoids an uncomfortable urethral swab.
Can I get tested for hepatitis B and C?
Yes. Hepatitis B and C screening is part of our panels, because these infections can cause serious liver problems while showing no symptoms for years.
Is syphilis testing included?
Yes. A syphilis blood test is part of the standard STD screening panel.
Can I get tested for herpes?
Yes. Herpes is checked with a blood test, or with a swab of a sore if you have one.
I have no symptoms. Should I still get tested?
Yes, if you have had a new or untested partner. Many STDs cause no symptoms but can still harm your health and pass to your partner.
How soon after a risk should I test?
Come in as soon as you can to talk it through. Some infections take a few weeks to show up, so your doctor may test you now and suggest a repeat test later.
Is treatment available right after diagnosis?
Yes. Curable infections such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea and syphilis are treated with antibiotics as soon as they are found, and herpes is managed with antivirals.
Does my partner need to be treated too?
Usually, yes. Treating both of you prevents passing the infection back and forth. Your doctor will explain how to tell your partner and what to do next.
